Chiropractic Killeen For Treating Hunchback

by Administrator 5. August 2013 08:38

Hunchback, also known by other names like Kyphosis and Scheuermann’s disease is a common developmental disorder mainly affecting adolescents, in which the spinal vertebrae deflect from their normal rectangular shape, assuming a wedge-shaped structure. The result is that the vertebral column begins to bend forward, as the vertebrae are unable to stack in a regular straight orientation. Modern lifestyles result in the development of hunchback due to poor posture caused by hunching in front of computer screens, smart phones, etc., which can have a negative impact on the sympathetic nervous system. This results in the body being in a constant state of “declared emergency”.

The treatment for hunchback depends on various factors such as the age of the patient, the symptoms being experienced, the cause of the disorder, the extent of progress, etc. Non-surgical treatment involves range of motion exercises that aim towards increasing the strength and flexibility of the vertebral column. Anti-inflammatory medicines are usually administered to the patients,

as these help in the management of pain, and reduce discomfort by preventing inflammation in the affected tissues. Young patients are usually advised to use a back brace, which must be worn throughout the developmental years, until the skeleton stops growing.

According to the chiropractors at Corrective Chiropractic & Wellness, the best approach for reducing the hunch in the spine is a balance between physical therapy and exercise. Along with improving the bowing in the spine, this also helps to improve general body functions of vital organs like the lungs and the nervous system, which are affected by hunching. In certain patients, the disease may have progressed to a more severe stage, in which case it might be impossible to restore normal functions in the body. However, physical therapy can still help to prevent further progression of damage in these patients.

Chiropractic treatment for hunchback involves the manipulation through flexion exercises that help to increase the flexibility of the spine, hence gradually restoring it to its original position. These manipulations are also useful in decreasing inflammation and reducing tension in the muscles. The gentle thrusting techniques employed in administering this manipulation help in stimulating the nervous system and stretching the muscles. Other techniques employed in the chiropractic treatment for hunchback include flexion-distraction, instrument-assisted manipulation, joint stretching, and resistance techniques.

Chiropractic Benefits For Post-Back Surgery

by Administrator 29. November 2011 06:48

Chiropractic therapy is based on the idea that different types of pains in the body can be comforted with the help of a suitable treatment done to the spine. The spine can be attuned in such a way that the spinal problems and other body pains are restored and the body heals up naturally. Thus, Chiropractic care is a natural healing process which relates itself to the specific care of the spine.

Back pain is one of the most common body pains, which is specifically treated with the help of chiropractic therapy in a natural way. It is believed that the body has self healing ability along with the immunity to fight back the pains. This therapy is safe and has no side effects.

Back surgeries should ideally be avoided, but in severe critical cases it becomes necessary. The patients, who have already undergone back surgery, need to keep a better care and consideration for their back pain. Chiropractic therapy proves to be very helpful in significant ways for the post back surgery care.

Some of the major types of chiropractic treatments which can be done post-back surgery are:

  • Cox Flexion Distraction Manipulation: It is an effective therapy that relieves the pressure on the spinal nerves gently and softly, and is frequently used for the treatment of post back surgery patients.
  • Cox Decompression Manipulation: It is used to cure the post back surgery pains, resulted due to additional forces applied during the surgery. It helps in relieving the pressure on the sensitive nerves, thereby healing the post surgery pain through low velocity adjusting procedure.

Back surgery includes the element of spinal infusion, which may prove to be ineffective in some cases. This condition where the surgery fails is also known as Failed Back Surgery Syndrome (FBSS). The patients suffer from severe back pain, which might develop soon after the surgery or months later, which is mainly due to the ASD (Adjacent Segment Disease). Therefore, chiropractic therapy becomes necessary even after the surgery and proves to be beneficial for post back surgery pains and early recovery.

Chiropractic Care For Tourette’s Syndrome - A Case Study

by Administrator 26. August 2011 04:26

Most of the people think of chiropractic care in terms of relief from neck and back pain. However, for a long time, chiropractors have advocated the health benefits that the patients have received for a number of ailments. According to a case study published in the Journal of Pediatric, Maternal and Family Health, chiropractic care has shown to benefit people from Tourette’s syndrome.

The study involved a 20 year old female who was showing the symptoms of Tourette's syndrome from the age of three. Tourette’s syndrome is a condition marked by uncontrollable and unwanted movements of some vocalizations and body parts, known as vocal and motor tics. The girl showed signs of irrepressible throat clearing and gusting of air from her nose. She also suffered from facial muscle contractions, rapid eye blinking, shaking of the whole body and severe and frequent headaches.

This patient and her family did not want to go for the conventional treatment for Tourette’s syndrome. She went to seek chiropractic help which revealed that she had vertebral subluxations. A subluxation can be defined as a misalignment in the spine that disrupts the normal functioning of the nervous system. Most of the chiropractors have unique non invasive technology that enables them to carry out Surface Electromyography (sEMG) test that help to locate the presence of such conditions.

In this particular case, the cause of the vocal and motor tics in the Tourette's syndrome (TS) was unknown. Having known that TS is a condition that arises from the supraspinal structures, and in this case, caused by stress, it was possible to establish a common mechanism with a realistic backing.

Chiropractic care was given to the patient for 32 visits over a period of one year. Significant decreases in the severity and length of the vocal and motor tics of the patient was reported. The frequent headaches that she experienced were also reduced. Thus, through this case study, it was established that chiropractic care can significantly help in Tourette’s syndrome.

Chiropractic Treatment For Car Accident Victims

by Administrator 31. May 2011 17:28

Car accidents are very common and they have been continually rising rather than declining. As a matter of fact, accidents have become one of the chief causes of death in the US. Even if the accidents are not fatal, they can still cause severe injuries and disabilities. There are very few lucky people who do not get even a scratch or a bruise from an accident but in most of the cases accidents do result in injuries that can be minor or major in nature.

General Injuries from Car Accidents

A car accident can cause an injury anywhere on the body but some of them are more common than others. Injuries on the head or face are generally scratches, bruises, gashes and damage or loss of dentures. Whiplashes, sprains, strains disc injuries and fractures are very common in the shoulders, neck, arms, lower and mid back. Most common spinal injuries that occur are cervical, sprains, disc injury and lumbar spine injury. Lower body injuries are wounds on the foot, knee and leg as well as ligament injury.

How Chiropractic Treatment Helps?

Chiropractic therapy is a surgery free treatment procedure aimed at inducing general wellness. The work of chiropractors involves making mild adjustments to the spine. They might recommend certain exercises and may even give therapeutic massage to get the injured ligaments and muscles back into shape. In some of the accident cases it has been proved that Chiropractic manipulations have worked better than medical drugs and physical therapy.

Another benefit of chiropractic treatment is that upon examination a chiropractor may notice those injuries that were not picked up immediately by doctor after the accident. When a person faces an accident, the reflexes of the body are put in defense mode. This is done in order to protect the body by releasing natural pain killer hormones known as endorphins. Once these hormones are released, the accident victim may not feel pain and may not even make out that he is injured. Therefore, a check up by a chiropractor is suggested following an accident, even if you have consulted the medical doctor.
