Hip Impingement And Chiropractic Treatment

by Administrator 28. November 2017 20:16

Hip impingement or “Femoroacetabular Impingement” (FAI), refers to friction between the ball and socket of the hip joint which resultantly damages the joint. It is characterized by pain in the groin particularly after walking or sitting for a long period of time. People in such a case often find it difficult to flex their hip beyond a certain angle.

If treatment is not given at the right time, it can lead to hip osteoarthritis. Chiropractic treatment is believed to be the best natural and effective non-surgical method of treatment.

Types Of Femoroacetabular Impingement (FAI)

  • Cam Impingement – It is caused due to deformity of the ball at the top of femur.
  • Pincer Impingement – Occurs due to deformity of the socket and is more common in females.
  • Combined Impingement – It is a combination of the above two types.

How To Diagnose

  • X-Ray
  • CT Scan
  • MRI

Chiropractic Treatment For Hip Impingement

  • Mobilization – The affected area is gently mobilized by stretching and moving the muscles and joints. This is done to increase the range of motion which has been restricted due to the deformed ball and socket joint in the femur.
  • Natural Agents – Chiropractors believe in going the natural and least painful way when it comes to joint related issues. Heat and ice therapy can be used to reduce pain caused due to hip impingement.
  • Exercises - Exercise is a core part of treatment for this condition. Strengthening and therapeutic exercises are generally advised to the patients.
  • Massage – Soft and slow massages can speed up recovery. It not only improves blood circulation in the troubled area but also reduces swelling and inflammation.
  • Dietary Guidelines – After a couple of sessions with a chiropractor, the patient is given dietary guidelines that can help in maintaining good joint health in future. Supplements might also be recommended.
  • Manual Manipulation - High speed arm thrusts are performed on the affected area to reduce pain and relax the nerves.
  • Ultrasound – Ultrasound therapy is used for giving deep heat therapy to soft tissues and joints in the hip area. It is extremely relaxing and soothing for the joints.
  • Cold Laser Therapy – Laser therapy works by transforming light energy into bio-chemical energy. This helps in reducing swelling and inflammation in the hip joint. Circulation in the joints is greatly improved leading to relief from pain.

Chiropractic Care For Muscle Strains

by Administrator 24. November 2017 22:12

An over-stretch in muscle or tendon can cause muscle strain. The condition also known as pulled muscle, is
caused due to an acute injury, fatigue, improper or overuse of a muscle. Poor flexibility and not warming up prior to any physical activity may also cause muscle strain leaving one in pain which is often unbearable.

: The primary symptoms of muscle strain are swelling and pain. The skin shows signs of bruising, swelling along with pain which can be experienced even during resting. There may be weakness which eventually restricts movement of the muscle.

Chiropractic Treatment

Chiropractic treatment is effective in treating pain associated with back, neck, shoulder, pelvic, elbow, wrist, hip, knee and ankle. A chiropractor helps in providing relief from both acute and chronic muscle strains.

What Constitutes The Treatment?

The injury will follow certain examination procedures including orthopaedic, neurological and chiropractic tests. Once the origin and extent of injury is determined, following treatment procedures are undertaken:

  • Manual Manipulation: The chiropractor corrects the spinal alignment with the help of controlled pressure of fingers or instruments otherwise. The gentle manipulation of spine facilitates joint mobility and ability of body to heal any strain naturally.
  • Electrical Stimulation (STIM): The STIM technique uses two stimulations which send intersecting low frequency waves promoting healing. The technique is suitable for healing soft tissue, ligament sprains and spasms as well.
  • Ultrasound: Ultrasound treatment ensures recovery process by generating heat response against injured tissue. The vibration and heat caused by the high speed waves at the injured area increases blood flow, massage damaged tissue and promote self-healing.
  • Nutrition Planning: Proper balance and functioning of body is ensured by prescribing nutritional supplements and dietary changes.  A diet rich in carbohydrates and proteins is recommended for fuelling and building up muscle.
  • Exercises: The chiropractor recommends various muscle strengthening and stretching exercises to eliminate muscle weakness.

Benefits Of Chiropractic Treatment

The major benefit of chiropractic treatment is the focus on the self-recovery patterns of body. Chiropractic techniques improve blood flow to the injured tissue thereby stimulating healing. There are certain conditions where irritation is experienced with nerve roots. Therefore, relief is provided with effective therapeutic treatment of the injured tissue. The body is able to generate natural pain killers and heal itself leading to restored muscle movement. Thus, chiropractic technique focuses on the recovery of body from injury without any kinds of surgery or medication.
