Curing Asthma With Chiropractic Care

by Administrator 28. September 2009 16:48

Asthma is a very common complaint among people. But it is surprising that this disease has become very deadly taking several innocent lives. Since 1979, the deaths caused due to asthma have increased up to 58%. In fact asthma is one of the three deadly diseases identified in recent past. In the year 1998, an estimate given by Centres for Disease Control and Prevention has shown that nearly 6.4% of Americans are reported with asthma. What’s even more shocking is that the incidence of asthma has doubled in the last 20 years and most of the sufferers are children. Approximately 14 Americans die each day and nearly 17 million suffer from this disease making it most common and costliest illness in US.

A panel of doctors from the Michigan Chiropractic Council conducted a study to assess the effectiveness of chiropractic care on children suffering with asthma. Children with an average age of 10 years were selected for this study. As a part of the study, these doctors reduced medication to nearly 70% and substituted it to chiropractic care. After 30 days of treatment, it was observed that asthma attack rate was reduced from four attacks a to just one attack.

In another study that was conducted on 47 patients suffering with mild, moderate and severe asthma for a period of 2 years, remarkable improvement was observed. Not only the symptoms of the disease reduced but also usage of medication decreased drastically. This improvement in health condition was retained for more than 2 years. Gradually more than 70 chiropractors from 62 different cities conducted these studies on more than 80 children reported of asthma. Chiropractic care can be of immense help for asthmatic children.

Chiropractic Care For Children.

by Administrator 21. September 2009 17:15

There is no age for Chiropractic care. Chiropractic care can be needed by anyone ranging from a new born baby to an old age person. Patients suffering with chiropractic disorders usually have neuro-musculoskeletal complain that includes neck pain, back pain, pain in joints of arms or legs and headache. Sometimes, during the time of child birth trauma is caused in neck and spine, which may need chiropractic care. Such a trauma may disturb spinal cord and nerves that control infant muscles and organs. Early diagnosis can help in overcoming this problem.

What is the right time to start Chiropractic care for a child?

If possible, children should undergo chiropractic examination immediately after their birth. Spinal trauma in children can occur because of many reasons like birth process or due to regular tumbling while trying to walk or sit. For many it may be quite surprising to know that spine in children grows 50% in length during the first year after their birth. Due to these tremendous changes during growth, chiropractic examinations become very crucial during the early ages of their growth.

Preventing a disorder in early stages is very important rather than getting it cured at a later stage. Awareness in parents, along with proper diet, exercise and posture can keep your child free from sublaxtions which leads to chiropractic disorder.  Healthy habits and good hygiene inculcated at an early stage helps your child to grow up to be a healthy adult.

Usually youngsters suffer from several accidents like falling from their bicycle, or even while running or playing with friends. The external injuries may disappear in due course but the internal damage could go unnoticed. Hence periodic chiropractic examination is very important in growing children. Chiropractic care provides natural remedies to all these problems and helps body function more efficiently without using any medications.

Is chiropractic care effective in children?

Chiropractic doctors are providing effective and safe care for children over the last 100 years. This has been proved by the studies conducted by researchers across the globe.

Chiropractors- A Ray Of Hope For Attention Deficit Children

by Administrator 14. September 2009 10:33

Attention deficit hyperactivity disorder (ADHD) is very common among children. Ritalin is a very popular drug that is prescribed for treating ADHD. Recent analysis shows that the demand for this particular drug has increased fivefold in the last decade. What’s even more shocking is that out of the total world consumption, 90 percent of this drug is prescribed in US. Parents are getting more apprehensive about the traditional treating process followed for ADHD, so doctors are switching to non drug treatment.  This process concentrates on bringing about changes in postural muscles, nutrition, and lifestyle which are the key factors influencing activity of brain.

Dr. Scott Bautch, ex president of American Chiropractic Association Council has stated that, Difficulty in grasping certain subjects is a very common issue with some children. But in present scenario, schools are suggesting parents to get their children tested for ADHD whenever they come across such complaints. He also said that schools can approach for funding if the number of such children is on a rise.

Dr Scott says that the learning process for such students is entirely different and teachers would be facing tough time if they apply the same approach with such children as with others. He also says that before a child is sent for diagnosis, doctors should speak to the child and his parents and ask few questions related to his/her behavior. Some of the most frequently asked questions are about the child’s behavior (e.g. is she over active or calm), learning pattern, high frustration levels or behavioral problems at school or home. To understand the situation better, Dr Scott gives an illustration saying that if we attend a conference or a meeting where the speaker’s style of communication is different and difficult to follow, then we would get frustrated and try to behave differently either by chatting with others or sometimes may even quit the room.

The conventional cookie-cutter model is still followed for medically detecting ADHD. Dr. Robert Melillo a renowned Chiropractic neurologist says that this model works on a questionnaire which is now outdated. Typical ADHD patients show symptoms like tics, tremors, postural problems, high sensitivity to touch, sight or even sound. Medications can only keep ADHD under control but fails to cure it completely. Eighty percent of patients are detected with ADHD features during their adolescence and 65 percent of them are reported to continue with the same symptoms even during their adulthood.

Chiropractic doctors and neurologists prefer alternative non drug treatments that target the root cause of the problem and not just the superficial symptoms. Motor activity which is helpful for postural muscle development is crucial for brain functioning. Any hazardous influence on postural muscle will lead to musculoskeletal imbalance and effect proper functioning of brain. Musculoskeletal imbalance will affect brain activity and leads to one part of the brain developing faster than the other. This is what happens in ADHD patient.

Chiropractic neurologists are specialized in identifying that part of the brain which is not functioning properly. They also suggest medication to rectify the problem and help brain hemisphere to grow properly. Dr. Frederick Carrick president of ACA council for neurology states that a brain function exam is conducted on every patient along with a visual and audio reflexes test by flashing light in the eye. Patients are asked to hear to particular music and the working efficiency of each ear is tested.

After diagnosing the cause, patients are kept on a medication program that can be administered even at home. As part of the therapy patients are asked to smell certain items several times a day or wear a pair of specially designed glasses. Dr Mark S Smith a famous chiropractic neurologist says that timing therapies are suggested to children who have problems in planning and implementing their schedules. Such children are asked to clap to metronome and perform spinning and balancing exercises.

Since no authenticated information related to any studies on ADHD exists, chiropractic neurologists are gathering information related to children who are on treatment program. Tests are conducted on children before they are placed on a treatment program and there after information is gathered every three months. Improvement in academic performance lasts as long as children are on medication, but the treatment has an every lasting impact on the functioning of the brain.

Chiropractic neurologists have succeeded to a great extent by treating ADHD with brain stimulation. Along with this, they also suggest certain changes in food and living styles that can prevent imbalances leading to ADHD. Some tips to parents:

  • Avoid dyes, preservatives and additives in your menu.
  • Switch to natural, organic and vegetarian food.
  • In case of any allergy, identify the cause and eliminate it from your diet
  • Avoid using pesticides at home.
  • At the time of pregnancy, avoid alcohol and drugs containing nicotine.
  • Try to stay calm and composed during pregnancy as too much pressure would have a negative impact on the foetus.
  • Initial months in a child’s life are crucial in developing resistance, so stick to breastfeeding.
  • Proper and timely care is helpful

If anyone of you or your acquaintances are diagnosed with ADHD, immediately consult a doctor. An experienced chiropractic neurologist is capable of identifying and treating ADHD patients. They can also advise you with some changes in your diet if necessary to improve your health condition.

Chiropractic Treatment For Spinal Pain

by Administrator 7. September 2009 15:45

Spinal cord is a long, thin, tubular bundle of nervous tissue and support cells that extends from the brain to the hips. The brain and spinal cord together make up the central nervous system. Our spinal cord can get injured or misaligned due to various reasons like accident, falls, stress, tension, overexertion, sports injuries etc. The injury can result in displacements or derangements of the spinal cord. These injuries can be minor which can heal with little care, while others may require lifelong treatment and attention. Chiropractic treatment is widely used for relieving pain due to spinal injury.

Chiropractic is a branch of healing arts or a health care discipline which is based upon the health aspects of a normally functioning nervous system especially the spinal cord. "Chiropractic" term arises from the Greek word Chiropraktikos, meaning "effective treatment by hand."

The chiropractic treatment offers a lot of benefits to the patients. It not only helps in increasing blood circulation, removal of lactic acid, supply of oxygen and nutrients, flexibility, training effectiveness but also reduces soreness and pain, adhesions, recovery time, muscle spasms and chance of injury. It also helps the body to relax and repair the damage.

The benefits of chiropractic care is much more then the initial relief, it also involves treatment and advice for your whole body and not just a specific part. Chiropractic treatment helps in aligning the skeletal system of the body so that the muscles, nerves, tendons, ligaments etc. can function properly. As a part of chiropractic treatment, patients are advised to perform some basic exercises at home to enhance its effects. This can vary from some specific exercises to general practices such as icing of sore area, using heating pads or stretching. A chiropractor also examines your lifestyle, eating habits, physical workout routine and then suspects the reason for occurrence of such a problem. After careful analysis of various factors, chiropractitioner prescribe various methods that will reduce and dissolve the pain, overcome injury or misalignment if there is any, and thus help in healing of the body.

Chiropractic treatment also involves body massages for muscle relaxation and skeletal alignment. It can also include use of herbal remedies. Exercises, adjustments and manipulations are done to prevent re-injury after a patient has recovered.
